Training & Assessment FAQs
-
Ensure the course has been posted on the LSV Member Training From Anywhere Portal.
For SRC & JBM, also ensure you have been accepted into the course and advised to enrol.
Note: There may be a 24 hour delay in the course becoming available from when you are contacted about it being posted.
Log in to the Members Area on the Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) Portal: https://members.sls.com.au/
Click on the ‘eLearning’ tab and follow the links to the Life Saving Victoria (LSV) Member Training From Anywhere Portal (not the ‘eLearning Sports and Nippers tab').
Scroll down the page (below the ‘Find a New Course’ tab) and select ‘enrol’ on the upcoming course.
Follow the enrolment process.
If applicable, complete the online learning for the course you have enrolled in before the face-to-face course learning begins.
Note: The online learning is best completed on a computer — follow the prompts and ensure adequate time to fully understand and complete all of the modules.

Skills maintenance is an annual process to ensure patrolling lifesavers remain proficient in their skills and knowledge. It includes practical assessment activities (lasting no longer than a couple of hours) and usually an online learning component.
Every patrolling lifesaver (including instructors and water safety) must complete it each season to maintain currency in their lifesaving awards (for example, SRC, Bronze Medallion, IRB Crew and Drivers).
However, if you have completed a new award during the current season, you do not need to complete skills maintenance for it (e.g. a Bronze Medallion obtained in October 2024 is current until 31 December 2025).
For your SRC, Bronze or IRB awards, if you do not complete skills maintenance within 60 months (5 years) of your proficiency expiring, your base award expires.
Point Lonsdale will hold at least one skills maintenance session in either November or December each season. Other Geelong region clubs will also hold sessions.
If you cannot make it to a Point Lonsdale SLSC skills maintenance session, you can attend any Skills Maintenance session in the state.
-
Enrol into a skills maintenance course LSV’s Member Training From Anywhere Portal (on the ‘Skills Maintenance’ tab).
Complete ALL of the e-Learning prior to attending your practical session (this MUST be completed otherwise you cannot be requalled).
Attend your face-to-face practical session(s), follow your group around and get signed off on the iPad for each activity in the session.
Monitor the SLSA Members Area for updated training records.
Proficiency obtained on/after 1 July is valid until 31 December the following year.
Proficiency obtained on/prior to 30 June is valid until 31 December of the same year.
*Completing ART skills maintenance without a new HLTAID009 CPR course every 12 months does not lead to the re-issuance of currency.

The LSV Member Training From Anywhere Portal uses the same login details as the SLSA Member Portal.
Ensure you are a financial ‘active member’ for the current season – your new awards or skills maintenance cannot be processed otherwise.
Go to https://members.sls.com.au/ and either login using your existing SLSA Members Area account OR click the ‘don't have a Members Area account yet?’ box to create an account – follow the directions on the page.
Click on the ‘eLearning’ tab and follow the links to the Life Saving Victoria (LSV) Member Training From Anywhere Portal (not the ‘eLearning Sports and Nippers tab').
You should now be logged into LSV’s Member Training From Anywhere Portal – on this portal you should be able to:
Enrol in new training courses (under the ‘Find a New Course’ tab)
Enrol in skills maintenance courses (under the ‘Skills Maintenance’ tab)
Complete e-Learning (under the ‘View Enrolled Courses’ tab).
Note: Online learning is best completed on a computer — follow the prompts and ensure adequate time to fully understand and complete all of the modules)
*Please make sure the name you enrol in courses on LSV’s Member Training From Anywhere Portal matches the name in your SLSA Member Portal account (e.g. not Charles in one and Charlie in the other) as you may face issues if they do not match. You can set a preferred name in your SLSA Member Portal personal details settings.

The LSV Member Training From Anywhere Portal uses the same login details as the SLSA Member Portal, so ensure you are making an account from: https://members.sls.com.au/SLSA_Online/modules/register/index.php
If you have never made a SLSA account, you will need your Point Lonsdale SLSC membership for the current season to have been processed by the Club Office for the system to recognise your details when you make an account
If you have a double-barreled name, ensure you only enter the EXACT name you signed up to become a member with, otherwise the system will not recognise your details.
If your parent has their email or phone number registered with the Club instead of yours (or their details are registered for multiple children), contact the Point Lonsdale SLSC Office if you experience difficulties logging in with the preferred email address and phone number of the member: office@plslsc.com.au
If you are still having issues logging in, please contact the Point Lonsdale SLSC Office for further assistance – sometimes there are technical issues that the Club Office or LSV support will need to resolve.
-
If you see some courses but not the Point Lonsdale SLSC course you want, then it is likely that your new LSV Member Training From Anywhere Portal account is not linking up with Point Lonsdale SLSC, so it won't show you the course. In this case, please call LSV Volunteer Training 9676 6980 and ask them to link your account to Point Lonsdale SLSC.
